Play Therapy
This is a research-based approach to counseling that is effective with children who have a variety of symptoms. Children do not yet have the verbal language to express themselves in a way that promotes healing. The playroom and the play therapist provide them an outlet to adequately express themselves in a safe environment, using the toys as their words.
Play therapy can help children with:
- Responsibility
- Problem-solving
- Respect for thoughts and feelings of others
- Acceptance of self and others
- Expressing emotion
- Regulating emotion
- Empathy
- Social skills
- Confidence
- Self-control
Sibling Dyad
Sometimes children can benefit from play therapy with a sibling. This can be a helpful treatment option if the siblings are having a high amount of conflict or if they are going through the same life change (death of a loved one, birth of a new sibling, relocation, separation/divorce, other family change).
